This is the top of Rowbotham Street at its junction with Stockport Road in 1984.
See how it looks now on Hyde Daily Photo.
Look further down the street on Hyde DP Xtra.
Old Hyde features non-contemporary material, old photographs, prints &c. of the Greater Manchester/Tameside town Hyde, in the county of Cheshire. It is a companion blog to Hyde Daily Photo.
It will drive me mad now to try and remember who owned the little hardward shop that was there. I think it was Ethel Oldham, but will have to check with the parents.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting comparison. I think I actually prefer the old version.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that Elizabeth got here first... I was trying my hardest to think what the shop had been... I think theres a sign on the left hand side that say's Wrigley Street, Square or Lane.. something like that..
ReplyDeleteIt does indeed say Wrigley Square, I grew up on Rowbotham Street and just about remember these properties before they got knocked down. My Parenst still live there and I only live round the corner !!
ReplyDeleteWhy they demolished that lovely old corner building i will never know.
