Throstle Bank
St George's Rowing Club was founded in 1883. The original boathouse was in a field by the Peak Forest Canal at Throstle Bank.
As well as some serious rowing, the club ran day trips to Romiley, Marple and Daisy Nook. After 1905 the HQ moved to a farm at Wood End.

The ladies in the boat, the men on the shore? Now that's what I call an interesting turn of events!

Although they would probably mean more to "Louis" had he ever actually visited Hyde, he nonetheless enjoys your posts here. "Louis" likes these historic photos.
ReplyDeleteAt San Francisco Bay Daily Photo, "Louis" continued the theme of his "S" post with the "T" post. HERE is how he did it.
The boathouse was still there in the 1970s Gerald, theres a plaque in St Georges to do with this club... it's just to the right of the entrance.
ReplyDeleteThrostle of course is an exceleent name. It is interesting to note the ladies are the boaters.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to find some info about thi club Gerald.. as soon as I get it I'll post it.
