VE Day 8th May 1945
seftonwallet has posted another film by George Wain on YouTube.
This one is of VE Day 8th May 1945, filmed in his back garden on Dowson Road, Hyde.
George was his art master at Hyde Grammar School.
Note the Union Flag on the egg, at the end of the film.
George Wain's film of VE day brought back some happy memories. Judith Wain was my best friend at the time. We were at St. George's together and I must be on several of his old home movies myself, taken at all the birthday parties He was my art master too when I was at Hyde Grammar (1949-54). jillm
Fascinating videos. Although before my time, George 'Cherry' Wain tuaght me art at Hyde Grammar. He did a charcoal sketch of me that my nana treasured for years.
On a separate note, I wondered if you had ever come across any images or reference to San Cipriano Terrace? It was a row of eight houses built around in Shepley Field near St Thomas's. I suspect it was where Morrisons is now.
It was built by one of my wife's relatives and named after the place where he lived and made his money in Mexico City.
Bit of a longshot, but I thought it was worth asking.
Sorry about having to keep captchas on my blogs but I took them off and got inundated with spam - I appreciate your efforts to comment despite the hurdle.
